Driver Acoustic Sensitivity And Frequency Response
A sensitivity number without voltage, distance, boundary, and frequency band is incomplete.
Voltage and power references
2.83 V produces one watt only into an 8-ohm resistor. For other loads, state whether the result is voltage sensitivity, one-watt sensitivity, or another reference and use the measured terminal condition.
Choose the boundary
- near field for local cone or port behaviour
- gated far field for mid/high response before reflections
- ground plane or large baffle for low-frequency extension
- sealed or vented enclosure for application behaviour
- installed vehicle measurement for final boundary effects
Document geometry
Record microphone, calibration, distance, axis, acoustic reference, driver orientation, baffle, room, gate, window, smoothing, averaging, and terminal voltage.
Stitching requires overlap
Near-field and far-field curves need compatible level references, valid overlap, boundary correction, and phase treatment. A cosmetic splice is not a verified full-range response.
Measure directivity and level dependence
Capture nearby axes or the intended listening window, then repeat at a higher terminal voltage to reveal compression or measurement-chain nonlinearity.
